Most years on January 1st, I make a grand list of resolutions for the coming year. I’ve yet to meet a year end where I actually followed through and kept my resolutions. This year I decided to approach 2014 in a new way. No lists of detailed goals, just a simple attitude change and a desire to make 2014 the best year yet. I came up with a few concepts to guide me, and I thought I’d share them with you in the next couple of weeks.
They say that comparison is the thief of joy. I’ve noticed that in my own life. If I start comparing the best of everyone else to myself, I come up short. Instead, I’ve found I’m happier when I notice all the good people around me, and recognize the generous things they do for me.
In everyday situations, I say thank you often. But when it comes to kind gestures by friends, family, or co-workers, I think a thank you note shows sincere and unexpected appreciation. It makes my day when I receive a thank you note in the mail. I’m going to take the time to notice the small things, and send thank you notes often. So here’s to a year sending thank you cards. Maybe these items will inspire you to send some notes of your own.
